U.S. A2P 10DLC FAQs: The Same Number Just Got Better
IMMPAKT is your strategic partner as changes in business messaging improve consumer trust and increase the ROI of each message.
What is U.S. A2P 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via local 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. Carriers in the US consider all IMMPAKT traffic to be A2P.
A2P 10DLC offers businesses the opportunity to engage with their customers using a verified local identity. New A2P dedicated routes will offer increased throughput, improved deliverability, and ensure SMS is a channel for long term customer engagement, using the same 10DLC phone numbers.
In order to protect consumers and create a trusted eco system with high customer engagement, AT&T and T-Mobile are requiring companies to register who they are and what they are sending via SMS and MMS -- for both current and future local long code numbers.

Why do I need to do this?
SMS is one of the most trusted channels businesses have to communicate with their customers. SMS messages have a 98% open rate (90% of those messages will be opened within 3 minutes of delivery), and a 45% average response rate. However, as business messaging has scaled, spam and unwanted messages have increased -- mostly through traditional P2P (person-to-person) long codes and shared short codes. Over the past year, the FTC has documented a 1.3x increase in texting spam complaints.
In order to maintain a trusted ecosystem, carriers need transparency to determine what is being sent and from who. These new regulations and registration requirements will protect end users from spam, and enable businesses to reliably send messages via local 10-digit long codes.
